Here's a little bit about each artist:
K-Fresh: Detroit DJ (he spins everything from electro to hip hop to blues and jazz), music journalist and founder of RenaissanceSoul.com, the true original website dedicated to the life and work of James Yancey aka J Dilla. He knows all the secrets.

Jason Hogans/Medium Parnell/:brownstudy: The founder of Really Nice Recordings, your friend, an advocate for positive and healthy, the best emcee you need to hear if you haven't already. He makes his own beats, too, and works with the finest folks in town, as he has recently released tracks on the great new label Exchange Bureau Music, as well as Planet E (less recently).

DJ Guy LaFleur: No, not the hockey player, yet he's still sort of a mystery to me. Expect greatness in the form of House music. I think.

Malik Alston: From the Detroit live band Painted Pictures, as well as his own Truth Manifest, London's Third Ear and Ubiquity Records. From what I've heard of his stuff, Malik brings quality, deep house beats :)

Minced Meat Radio (that's really me, Emily Copeland, fellow lover of all things Detroit and resident of the crumbling Windsoria) with FAM FEST (the festival I work on with my partner in party Murad) and Broken City Lab (a cool crew of 20-something creative folk who make it their business to make things and make things happen) all got together on this one to brighten the night with positive messages.

It didn't cost anything (use what you already have! ask people for donations and help!) and it impacted people in a stimulating way. It was gratifying for the community -- not just one person -- which is how we can encourage people to try harder to get along in a place that is too quick to divide.

I went with my friend Heather a month ago or so (I always work on Tuesday nights, so I can rarely make it out) and when I did, I was humbled by the skill, openness, variety and the sweet+positive attitudes at DJ Sicari's 5 Elements Gallery. It's all there -- whether you are new to Hip Hop culture or an innovative vet, its a great place for networking and meeting new people, and learning a thing or two -- like how to dance :)
