CJAM's Electro-Q - August 30 from 3PM-8PM
Join us CJAMmers for an electro-style BBQ and help raise money to buy a new antenna as we move up the dial to 99.1FM! With a new antenna we will be able to reach a broader listening audience. That means more exposure for local and underground artists, wider reach when *promoting your events, more help for non-profit organizations and the means to give a harder push to all the great music that is neglected by the mainstream media.

I just wanted to make sure you all knew about a great weekly event put together by some of the area's finest people in Hip Hop.

"The social impact of Hip Hop is a cultural revolution which crosses borders, inspires ideas & influences behaviors.
Encouraging freedom of expression, healthy competition, independent thought, & positive self-identity, this weekly event as a movement focuses on redefining the vital role of Women in Hip Hop.
Our mission is to educate and empower the community through sharing our love of the arts, while inspiring change and growth.

Featuring DJ's Mel Wonder, Sticky Niki, & La Jedi
with B-Girls Mama (Hardcore Detroit), Ri$ Money, & Teena Marie
& Graf Artist Riku
This evening is dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and creating empowering images of Women through Performance, Film, Videos, Internet and other forms of media. :Open Mic, Freestyle Cipher, Graffiti, B-Girls, showcases, special guests, & other surprises.
Once a month we have our in house all female hiphop band YIN. Whose members were formerly in detroit Rock band Lola Valley.
We have an open mic with ALL people welcome. Past special guests include Invincible, Miz Korona, Niambi, Monica Blaire, Mz Jonz, Skim, D.S. Sense, T Miller, Jessica Care Moore, Mae Day, Finale, 14KT, Mu, DJ Graffiti Buff 1, Big A, Zaoh, FES, Masood, Mudd, Kiko & sooooo much more!
Consistant supporters include the likes of DJ Head (Eminem), DJ Dez (Slum Village), DJ Sicari (5 Ela), DJ Soko, Sintex (Detroit's best graff writer), & much much more.
We call it The Foundation because we are dedicated to preserving the culture of Real Hip Hop and also because Women are the Foundation of the Universe!

I went with my friend Heather a month ago or so (I always work on Tuesday nights, so I can rarely make it out) and when I did, I was humbled by the skill, openness, variety and the sweet+positive attitudes at DJ Sicari's 5 Elements Gallery. It's all there -- whether you are new to Hip Hop culture or an innovative vet, its a great place for networking and meeting new people, and learning a thing or two -- like how to dance :)
5 Elements Gallery is located at 2125 Michigan Avenue in the old Corktown area of Detroit, near the Old (and now busted up) Tiger Stadium.

ALSO This Thursday, August 13th, 5E is hosting a preview-to-the-premier screening of DANNY BROWN THE MOVIE. At 6PM and 8PM catch the film as produced by Nic Notion Films... you've seen Nic's work before with Streets of Detroit and the recently released beat tape/video mash up Notion Theatre.
