DTM carries some of the finest DJs around, hands down. Their 5x5 performance is not to be missed. Pay them a visit and check out why so many people love them this SATURDAY for the AUX88 Record Release Party, Featuring:

CANADA <3's PHOG LOUNGE

YO,

PHOG LOUNGE has been voted one of the TOP TEN live music venues in CANADA! CHECK IT OUT

Thanks to all of the per4mers that come through and to everyone that voted! Tom and Frank definitely hold it down for Windsor when it comes to live independent music. It's one of the smallest venues around with a capacity of about 60 people, but the quality of music and events that runs through it is unparalleled!
Most memorable shows: denial's dubby art show!, flashbulb, final fantasy, iNSiDEaMiND, Leo37, BEasT, Harvesting the FAM Festival and OPen Mic Surgeries... Holy Fuck, BA Johnston, The Interior Project, Furs and all the local cats!!! It's THE spot for shows.

There are tons of shows going on all month long, and it's always a chill place to go! Opens at 6PM daily. click ze titleblog

Here's Something Murad brought to my attention, last night's Open Mic Surgery with Tara Watts at Phog was streamed and recorded live. Scroll forward to about 2:30 seconds and check out Murad aka (wh) y.m.e? with Stephen Hargreaves of Not_Digital (also the creator/editor of WAMM!)

SAVE INDEPENDENT AIRWAVES

Hey everyone: do you like CJAM? Do you dig the local hip hop and electronica that I play on Minced Meat every Sunday? Would you like to hear it continue? CJAM needs your help!

Attention CJAM listeners and supporters,

CJAM is currently applying for an amendment to our broadcasting undertaking to assume a new signal at 99.1 FM. While CJAM has been broadcasting at about 1000 watts for over 10 years, the station was never granted “Protected Status” from the CRTC, thanks to pressures from the FCC who were concerned with CJAM’s level of interference with adjacent American stations. Without “Protected Status”, CJAM faces the risk of losing its signal to other applicants. In fact, CJAM faced that very risk recently when the CBC decided to apply for 91.5 in the fall of 2008. The CBC ultimately withdrew its application, but CJAM still faces possible removal from the FM band thanks to a pending American application for our signal ("SMILE FM" in China Township, MI, a commercial Christian radio station).

CJAM has identified a new signal – 99.1 FM - that could afford the station protected status and has moved forward with applications for this new signal to Industry Canada and the CRTC. The application currently before the CRTC is now open for public comment, and this is where we need you, our community of listeners, programmers and volunteers to make your voice heard. If you value CJAM and community radio in Windsor and Detroit, please express your support of our application. Letters may be submitted electronically at www.crtc.ca, by fax at 819-994-0218, or by conventional mail to the following address: CRTC Ottawa Ontario K1A 0N2.

Please, could you write a letter to the CRTC saying just how important CJAM is to you? We're one of the ONLY non-mainstream radio stations in the area, where we are allowed (required) to focus on content produced BY the community, FOR the community. If you have a sense of community spirit, please reach out and help both yourself and us programmers at CJAM.

Personally, I have come to love volunteering at CJAM. When I first created Minced Meat, I wanted to be able to give the community something new and different to hear, something that showcased a variety of local talent from the area's two most important musical genres. It has developed over the last year and 6 months; I've met some incredible people and had the chance to talk to many excellent musicians, and I don't plan on stopping. Let CJAM know you're listening and that we have your support. You can call: 519-971-3630 from Windsor, and 313-963-6112 ext 3630 (toll free) from Detroit anytime.

Minced Meat and K-Fresh bring a retrospective of J Dilla.

Head to Shine On at TV Bar this Tuesday, February 10th for the most celebrated Hip Hop events to happen in Detroit. The best live DJ's, emcees, producers and a classic lineup. Maybe House Shoes will bring material from his latest project The King James Version.

And as a prelude to some of the music you may hear on Tuesday, Minced Meat broadcasts live once again this Sunday at 12AM on CJAM 91.5FM (www.cjam.ca). K-FRESH, the man behind the famed Renaissance Soul, is back with his immeasurable knowledge and taste and we're going to try to illustrate for you a catalogue of J Dilla's music. K-Fresh dedicated his website (click his name) to J Dilla's legacy and we're going to fill you in on some local musical history about him as best we chronologically can, the beginning to the present, the whole magilla. We'll talk about his many collabs, projects and releases, in the form of a tribute and recognition for the 3rd anniversary of the passing of this producer virtuoso, responsible for inspiring an entire generation of musicians and moving listeners.

Update! K-Fresh and I got together and put together a track list. Be prepared to learn something new about Dilla.

DID YOU KNOW: K-Fresh is responsible for providing Stones Throw Records' website with the complete chronological discography, production credits and collaborations of J Dilla's work. I couldn't ask for a better guest host to tell you about one of the most prolific artists of recent times.

Tonight on Minced Meat - Jason "Medium Parnell" Hogans

Click the title for a direct link to Jason's blog and find out more about this amazing artist, husband, father, friend, emcee, producer and musician.

Tonight we're going to talk a little bit about a lot of things: Permaculture, not only how it relates to local agriculture but also how the concept of it can be applied to music and musicians, as well as absurdity as a "theme" in Jason's music.

Jason runs Really Nice Recordings and is renoun for delivering fresh podcasts of his favourite music to you. Here's one list from quite a while ago:
Diane Cluck - Casting About
Sade - Never As Good As The First Time
Couth - A Matter Of Resources *
Adult - Strange Mistakes
Arto Lindsay - Prefeelings
Broadcast - Come On Let's Go
Dabrye - D-town Tabernacle Choir
Four Tet - Hands
Gnarls Barkley - The Last Time
Guillamino - Kalimbeats
J Dilla - Watchin' Smurfs On Shrooms
Jahcoozi - Magnetic Field
Kenny Rankin - Haven't We Met
Les Nubians - Makeda (Dj Spinna Mix)
Manitoba - Jacknuggeted
Polar Bear - Fluffy (I Want You)
Raheem DeVaughn - Guess Who Loves You More
Tosca - Naschkatze
Dialtone - Dehydration*
Kev Brown - Apple Crumb
:brownstudy - This Is What A Moment Can Sound Like*

...Just to let you get a feel for what to expect. Refer to some Minced Meat playlists and you'll hear the same type and quality of music. As you can tell, Jason's tastes are both obscure and appreciative of what's flavourful.

SO tune in and hear what he's got to say, he promises a live song or two as well. Peace!
OH don't forget: tonight, 12AM CJAM 91.5FM or www.cjam.ca
