Gleaners Benefit Show 2.0 - January 16th - The Belmont - $6
Once a year, well, probably more than once a year, this lovely lady by the name of Sarah Aldridge reaches out to the people in her community. This time it's to put together one whopper of a show to benefit Gleaners, a reputable, nation-wide organization that helps folks in the Detroit area keep food in their bellies.
From the Press Release:
"In these times of economic uncertainty there are a plethora of non-profit organizations that enrich our communities that, due to drastic cuts in funding, are unable to provide programs and services they once have. Now, non-profit organizations are working even harder to keep their doors open. Such is the case with Metro Detroit’s Gleaners Community Food Bank. Gleaners nourishes communities by not only feeding them, but educating individuals through a number of informative programs. As a community, Detroit and its surrounding cities cannot afford to have Gleaners cut programming or their ability to provide almost 65,000 meals per day!
"On Saturday, January 16th, eight of Metro Detroit’s most talented bands and emcees are joining efforts at Hamtramck’s Belmont to raise funds for this incredible, local non-profit organization. From hip-hop to alternative country to rock, the night offers a little something for every discerning musical taste. For only 6 dollars, (that’s less than a dollar a band) Metro Detroiters can inexpensively have a night out on the town as well as support Gleaners. So, for every admission, show goers will be providing 18 meals for hungry Metro Detroiters! In addition, this event is sponsored by Russell Street Deli. In 2009, this local eatery raised almost $10,000 for the food bank with the help of its customers.
"All proceeds from the show will go to Gleaners to ensure their doors remain open for many, many years to come. By joining together as a community and attending the concert, individuals are not only helping Gleaners raise money, but ensuring the community reaches its highest potential."
Check out the fresh lineup!
