Monica Blaire at the DIA - January 8th - Free
from press release
"As a part of their continuing venue for great artists, celebrate the New Year at Friday Night Live! With The Monica Blaire Experiment!
"There is no more prestigious venue for performance in Detroit than the DIA; come start the New Year off right with Monica Blaire’s avante-garde sound experiment at DIA!
"Detroit, Michigan - Dynamic singer, Monica Blaire and the Detroit Institute of Art are collaborating for an evening in celebration of the art of sound. The two will merge for the second installment of Blaire’s avante-garde project: The Monica Blaire Experiment Bridging the Gap: Adventures in Sound Vol. 2.
"The DIA, an important cultural landmark in the city of Detroit, will be hosting the free event on January 8, 2010, at 7:00 PM featuring the progressive songstress, Monica Blaire. Her stage presence has always been unique and distinguished for its performance art leanings. This event, however, demarcates her conscious acknowledgement of the audience as participants and a galvanizing influence on her music. The Sound Experiment endeavors to bridge the gap between age demographics by creating a fun and highly interactive experience between Monica Blaire and her patrons.
"This show is innovative and refreshing. It boldly explores the sophisticated notion of the energizing effect an audience can have on an artist’s work and it is appropriate for all ages. Monica Blaire is interested in creating a symbiotic artistic atmosphere that softens the rigid line between performer and viewer. “When we blur the line true art is created,” says Blaire, effectively summarizing the mission of her work.
Special Guest Stars: Jon Bibbs, Marvwon, RoSpit, and the legendary Songstress…Ortheia Barnes!!!
Date: Friday, January 8, 2010
Time: 7pm & 8:30 pm performances
Venue: The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)
Admission: FREE !!!
The MonicaBlaire was recently described as:
“From Mozart to Mainstream, eclectic is the way to describe Blaire. Hip-Hop being the foundation that MonicaBlaire stands on creates and environment where classical, rock, soul, gospel, and funk playfully co-exist. Her sound is of early soul music, and inspired by an unconventional sense of rhythm and melodies, MonicaBlaire is more than an artist . . . she is an experience.” "

Ro Spit & Monica Blaire - Renaissance State of Mind
Check out the new video from Ro Spit (also known as DJ Phrikshun of Subterraneous, aka Octane) and Detroit's Queen of Hip Hop, Monica Blaire. They've re-made the hit single "Empire State of Mind" from Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 to fit the frame of the fine Motor City.
...Speaking of re-makes, Ro Spit aka Roland Coit's accolades go beyond just music. He was recently part of an ad contest held by Fortune Magazine designed to find an entrepeneur from the Detroit area that would help 're-brand' the City of Detroit, essentially sharing reasons why Detroit is an attractive urban destination for other entrepeneurs. His ad was all about making your own imprint on Detroit, a city that he refers to as a blank canvas. It's what's clever: Detroit truly is a mecca for innovative creativity, a perfect spot to try new things and stretch people's capacity for new and unordinary music, technology and ideas. Yeah he's from the 'Yac (Pontiac)... but it's Detroit that he represents, and he's doing a fine job of getting the national kind of attention that the city deserves, musically and otherwise.
Factoid: DBIT (Warp, Live Wire Records) of Rochester Hills recreated the entire beat from scratch for Ro & Monica's version. Original production credits go to Jay-Z & Co. but if it sounds familiar, it's because samples in the song are from "Love on a Two-Way Street" by The Moments and "The Breakthrough" by Isaac Hayes.
Download new The Ro-Spit Project here, and enjoy production/features from other locals such as 14KT, Big Tone, DL Jones, Marv Won and iLLite to name a few.
